Meaning: In some Chinese lengends, some of the Taoist immortals are riding Xian He (red-crowned crane). Thus Xian He is usually associated with long life. Traditionally Xian He is considered to be the most noble bird second only to the lengendery Phoenix (the symbol of the empress), so it is the symbol for high officials. From the Song Dynasty (960 A.d.), Xian He was embroidered on the gowns for the first-rank officers (prime ministers, senators, teachers of the Princes, etc.) who were the second only to the emperor and was the highest achievement for a common person.

Size: 30 x 30 cm
The peaches in the center and along the circle are called: "Shou (long life) Tao (peach)" which symbolize long life. The Bian Fu (bats) at the top and the left symbolize fortune because in Chinese fortune is also Fu. Notice that the bats are up-side-down. Up-side-down sounds the same as "come" in Chinese. So together the up-side-down bat means get fortune. Exchanging words that sound the same is often seen in Chinese art.
